For those of us who create Annual Reports, white papers, and other pieces with data tables, it would be fantastic to be able to use calculations within InDesign tables.
A way of saving drop shadow and any of the effects within ID, as presets within the dialogue ‘Effects Panel’
Graduation effects are very limited compared to Freehand.
CS3 is still bloody brilliant though.. keep up the great work adobe!
Jason would like to see:
A program that doesn’t crash everytime you try to re-link a graphic in Leopard.
Hereward would like to see:
- table boxes with adjustable rounded corners without having to create separate boxes and overlaying the image.
- simpler printing with a check box in the pages menu panel
- the ability to name each page in the pages menu panel
please! please! please!!!
Raja would like to see:
(1) Handling XML tags like find and replace the tags for particular contents
(2) Allowing scripts to be in active mode like watching always the users activity
Raja would like to see:
Expecting Math support
pete would like to see:
- multiple page sizes in one document
- integration of an improved illustrator into indesign, that makes old illustrator obsolete.
kaalra would like to see:
Placing foonotes in two column
Johan would like to see:
Placing foonotes in different frames instead of placing them automaticaly at the bottom of the page in the same frame
Hill would like to see:
Must have CROSS-REFERENCING capability! Also would like to see them fix the unwrappable variable text. If these two things were fixed, it would be PERFECT!
Peter would like to see:
Much more compatibility with MS Excel
Michael would like to see:
i would like to see a core setting tool, that allows me to control the cpu power (mac) with indesign. (ex. 2 cores work with indesign, one with ps and finally the rest with other apps). than i would like to see a special toolbox for textdesign, but with effects like distort perspectively and so on…
Angela would like to see:
Let’s see some native math features built in. We want to get our equations out of Word and edit them directly in InDesign!
teuferl would like to see:
I would like to see an actions-palet, and a possibility for batch-processing.
Or a tool that converts actions to scripts
Juliet would like to see:
A tool like the paintbrush in Word, which would allow me to highlight formatted text, then apply to a swath of unformatted text which would then be formatted in exactly the same way. Sometimes applying styles–paragraph or character–can be way too cumbersome.
Paul Williams would like to see:
I would like to see the best of all that is out “there” put together in InDesign CS4. I don’t care for the carrot before the horse … always wanting more but not getting it. There is so much that can be added but … How about lots of special effects for text and pictures, intuitive controls, easily applied color and gradients, etc …. It’s the Creative Suite so be creative!
Carla Jansen would like to see:
A way to set up lines side by side… (not as table) much like what is called for using Information Mapping Style.
The heading to the left would align with the next that follows on the right…even if the text on the right was two lines…
Chris would like to see:
Support for Indian languages using proper Unicode fonts.
Joe Suraci would like to see:
To clarify the Hybrid Toolbox with an example: After purchasing a CS app, you could pluck a tool icon from one app like PS or Ai and bring it into the ID toolbox, and etc.
Oh and… I would like to see all of the ID DTP tools.
Greed!
OutDesign would like to see:
Wow, LiveColor and LiveFont seem to be an awesome idea, I would like to see it in CS4.
Since you asked… I would like to see InDesign adopt the FL and DW interface. Also, loadable toolset and/or application modules (be nice if all Adobe products had this) Much like the “Shelf” of a certain other application. Heck, why not fully customizable hybrid toolboxes! There, I said it.
Dev would like to see:
Integration with Kuler LiveColor like Illustrator and help us to change colors rapidly.
Additionally, a font manager to manage all the fonts, even better if adobe creates a Kuler-like application and offer LiveFont feature that helps us to choose fonts on the fly.
Also, more gradient patterns would be better than linear and radial only. It would be better to apply images as the background of table and text frame.
The table cell can be skewed to any angle, so that we can create a more sophisticated table layout.
The Interaction function should be enhanced, so that I can save time from doing so in Acrobat.
Sanjay Yadav would like to see:
I wood like to see an internal or optional forumla editor like InMath. Or Mathtype works with Indesign with simple past command without problems. It’s a dream!
Samir Toronto would like to see:
I’d like to know if InDesign CS4 compatible with SDLX (Translation)
OrlandoMark would like to see:
I would like a way for InDesign to truly embed 100% of the fonts in a PDF export and not subset.
Nadezhda Miloserdova would like to see:
I would like to see Macros (like in MS Word).
I would like to have an opportunity to record my actions and save them for the case I need to repeat them automatically.
It would be very usefully when placing Excel file that in the placement window be an button which will open selected file in excel, an then manually select cell range and than go back to InDesign. This is very usefully when you have two tables in one sheet and want to separate them in InDesing, with links of course. Thank you for listening me and sorry for my bad English…
Ben would like to see:
InDesign needs an option for a horizontal spine, it would be extremely useful for designing calendars.
Ken MacDonald would like to see:
I would still like to see an option to have IND hold its previous page range print settings instead of default to print all pages
Anschau would like to see:
At 1st: I’d wish Indesign to offer crossreferences in the text like “see at Page XX”. Also the implementation of footnotes must get better.
2nd: Page Size Changing should be selectable from or to which dimension (like Photoshop).
3rd:I sometimes think about wether this manual frame layouting is still up to date.
I think about implementing techniques like CSS that allow layouts more automatically driven by styles.
A first step would be to have “Position formats” like “right corner, 2 mm right from page margin”, that can easily be changed for a whole document. With that function, changing document sizes would really get easy, making “one content - many Layouts come true”!
4. Would it be possible to make Indesign calculate, e.g. in Tables?
Paula would like to see:
An auto column divider line that can be applied to master pages or text boxes. Also, a paragraph tool that can be used to select multiple, random paragraphs and then apply a style to the whole lot at once.
Karl Baumgartner would like to see:
I know that this has already been mentioned before but imposition software that worked like ALAP’s Inbooklet. I really found it useful that Inbooklet created a new .indd file from what was impositioned instead of just generating a PDF file directly.
LaughingVulcan would like to see:
I would like to see Illustrator Import & Export capabilities. Also, Freehand Import. Both of these are LONG overdue IMHO…and there is NO excuse that three products owned by the same company CANNOT properly communicate with each other by the THIRD rendition. (Illustrator Import & Export SHOULD’VE been in CS2 or CS3…)
Mart would like to see:
Apply masterpages based on paragraph styles (like Framemaker)
esteban would like to see:
1. Punkt zerowy osi X i Y mierzony z grzbietu.
2. Wspólny stół roboczy dla wszystkich stron.
3. Narzędzie skalowania zdjęcia po dwukrotnym kliknięciu na siatce obiektu (na tabeli sterującej) podobnie jak w Adobe PageMaker
4. Bardziej przejrzysty interfejs (elementy mniej używane - bardziej schowane)
5. Narzędzie przycinania zdjęcia
6. Grafiki umieszczane bez ramek (jak w Adobe Pagemaker)

I’d also like to see the ability to round corners in tables, even just the outer frame would be extremely useful.
OrlandoMark would like to see:
I would like to see an identifier in the paragraph styles that lets me know if the style contains a nested style without having to open it up. Something cool like a little bird or a nest would work next to the paragraph style name.
BZ would like to see:
Spliting table cell between frames/pages
Footnotes in tables
SpaceCat85 would like to see:
A layers palette that gives you the amount of control over individual objects (including objects within groups) that Illustrator does. I spend a lot of my time in Illustrator, so that comparative lack of control/flexibility always strikes me when I switch between it and InDesign or Photoshop.
Rotate page temporarily to easily edit rotated text
El Robbo would like to see:
Although I only have CS2, I have often thought that it was odd to introduce only Photoshop filter capabilities in CS3. I get far more benefit from Illustrator effects when it comes to text manipulation, titling etc. so it would be a DEFINITE inclusion I would like to see in CS4. Also, I think a lot of the DTP Tools plugins have keyed in to what people would actually like from InDesign. I don’t have these plugins, however from what I have seen they are well designed with designers in mind. Perhaps taking a leaf from their book would be beneficial for CS4?
Chris Allen would like to see:
Proper, automatically updating endnotes. Auto-updating continuation lines (at the moment, if the text reflows, continuation lines for footnotes don’t update)
Dean Kroon would like to see:
Real multithreading in the app - it’s a waste to have all these great pentium core 2 procs with nothing happening on the 2nd core!
Bryan would like to see:
Sublayer Support - Like in Illustrator… I second Zervas request for an InBooklet type of plugin back. Quark really screwed us on that one when they bought ALAP and discontinued it.
Horst would like to see:
A native built in access to several types of databases (via ODBC for example to MySQL, MSACCESS, MSSQL-Server or the like) would also be helpfull to create “simple” documents based on database content.
To buy a relativley expensive extra software or plug in could be avoided.
Horst would like to see:
I would like to have more automized placeholders/variables included within the text, which can be filled once and used multiple times in a document. In Datasheets for example the product name or designation code is mentioned very often and has to be typed in each time it is used. Changing a variable will update a document much easier.
ü-bob would like to see:
I would like to print (X)up non consecutive
like a sort of automated step and repeat in the print booklet plugin. Unlike the step and repeat in the edit menu.
Jefferson would like to see:
InDesign needs to handle transparencies better. Too much banding, miscolored boxes and spot color issues in InDesign CS3.
Zervas would like to see:
I want InBooklet back. CS3s print booklet just isn’t the same. CS4 will need to contain a new signature plug-in to make it useful for creating imposed documents.
For those of us who create Annual Reports, white papers, and other pieces with data tables, it would be fantastic to be able to use calculations within InDesign tables.
